Host Forum: Sonic Visualiser / Unable to open SV sessions
« on: January 27, 2010, 10:49:54 »
Hi

Over the past two weeks I've created about 25 sv sessions. Suddenly today, SV is unable to open or read any of these sessions.  Should I uninstall and download SV again, or is there something I can do to restore the programme so that it can open the sessions.  Jonelle

   ???
I'm using SV to make a comparative analysis of five recordings of an art song.  I have been able to align the five recordings in SV, but the resulting spectrograms layers are too small to work on.  Is there any way I can work on each spectrogram separately, and when I've concluded my analysis import all five sessions back into one SV window?

Hi

Thanks for your prompt response. It was in my Vamp pluggins folder in C drive, but still not working.  So I uninstalled it and then reinstalled and  (yipee) the time alignment icon has appeared on the tool bar.

I am working on the final chapter of a Music PhD in which I'm making comparative analsyes of sections of a song.  I live a long way from my academic insitution, and as a consequence am a bit on my own when it comes to using SV.  It's nice to know there's someone out there who can help.

Bye for now

 ???

Hi

I've left a message on the vamp plugins forum, but since my question is to do with SV I thought I'd post it here too.  I'm trying to time align five versions of the same song, but the time alignment icon does not appear on my version of SV.  I've tried to download the Match plugin, and although I have put it in my Vamp plugins folder in C drive, I cannot get the icon to appear on the SV tool bar.   Any help and advice gratefully received!!

Getting and Using Vamp Plugins / Match plugin
« on: January 13, 2010, 15:07:34 »
 ??? Hi

I'm just starting to do some comparative analysis on SV and the time alignment icon does not appear on my tool bar.  I'm a newbie and I cannot make head or tail of the information on the Vamp plugins page as to how I can download the MATCH plugin.  I've tried downloading it to my Vamp plugins file  on my C drive, but cannot get it out of there and into SV.  Any help on this gratefully received.  Thanx Jonelle

Thanks Chris - that's done it! :)

I have another query.  As you know I'm a newbie and I've just uploaded my first wav file into sonic visualiser.  I have two waveforms appearing in the pane, one on top of the other. The left hand axis appears to have trebled - it runs from 0.9 - 1.0 three times up the left hand side of the pane. When I try to add a spectrogram layer, I have given three choices: All channels mixed; channel 1 and channel 2.  What is the signficance of two waveforms?  How can I get rid of one?

I am a new user of Sonic visualiser and last week downloaded version 1.7.  I have worked my way through the Sonic Visualiser tutorial by Daniel Leech-Wilkinson and Nick Cook, and am now looking through the Brief Reference Guide.  I note that both of these relate to sonic visualiser 1.6,  and there are a couple of things that I cannot find/operate in version 1.7.  The most significant is the display on the vertical and horizontal axis.  For instance,  1.1 of the Reference Guide indicates time values on the horizontal axis - these do not appear in SV 1.7. When using the spectrogram layer, I cannot find the freqencies that should be annotated on the left vertical axis.  Please could someone advise me on this. Thanks very much indeed. Jonelle
